4 August - Day 10 - Sebreno to La Isla 16km

TLDR - Mostly off road on country and coastal track. Great walking. Splash out on a beachfront hotel.
Average sleep. Bed like foam with not much give. But great to have a hot morning shower - yay. Breakfast at 9am, we want to be on the road by then. Spanish are late to bed and to rise. The B&B owners were nice enough to put out ours early. Toast, waffles, some type of cake, muesli, coco pops, coffee, bananas and oranges. Good walking food.
On the road by 8:30am. It’s overcast but humid. We thought we were already at the top of the hill, wrong! We start with a 1km climb followed by a steep desent to get us back onto the Camino route. The hills have morning fog rolling over the top of them.
Take a picture in San Esteban de Leces a pint size village. Nothing is open and again not even the cathedral. Part time Catholics!
We hit Vega de Ribadesella and it’s a really quaint village and on the coast.  One house has these gorgeous murals. Would love to have stayed here. There is a cafe at the beach with a huge bay window perfect place to watch the surf. Will definitely return.
Walk parallel to the beach enjoying the sound of the crashing waves. It’s still overcast but the humidity has arrived. Walk through another little village with a cafe on the side of the road. Fresh orange juice hits the spot. Another pilgrim is enjoying a beer. It’s 10:30am.
Several hours of hills and country paths until we arrive at La Espasa. Bump into Alfonso who has had an easy day and booked into the albergue. We want to stay on the beach so push on to La Isla a few more kms away.

The albergue at the beach is full so we splurge at the 2 star hotel next door.  180 degree views. No complaints.
Lunch time. Daz’s stomach is playing up again so he just has a beer. I have a Cuban sandwich. It’s delicious.

Time for a swim.  Swim more like a quick dunk as the water is fresh. We are getting closer to the Atlantic and the water temperature is slowly decreasing.

We need to warm up so head for a shower but Daz has other plans. Makes us a shampoo bubble bath. Can’t remember the last time we had a bath. It’s cosy and we start to snooze. Make it to the bed and we crash.
6pm time for drinks. Manage one then the heavens open so we retreat to the terrace at our hotel.  Meet a fellow guest a race car mechanic from Madrid who has worked on the supercars at Eastern Creek.

Limited options for dinner so we get takeaway pizza and eat it in bed, cause we can.

Fall asleep listening to the crashing of the waves and the rain on tapping on our window.
