28 July - Day 3 - Islares to Larendo 21km

Cold night last night. Kim slept in her puffer jacket. She was in 2 minds whether to pack it and last night was enough to convince her it was a good choice.

First ones to bed, first ones up in the campground. Put on our slightly damp clothes and put the rest of the damp gear back our laundry bags.
Watched the sunrise over the water while we eat our breakfast of croissants, jamon, red pepper and goats cheese. Kim having cheese for breakfast = happy.

Walk through "El Pontarron de Guuiezo" to our first stop Orinon for coffee and second breakfast €2.50 each. Bumped into a family we saw walking yesterday and they convinced us not to take the route over the mountain goat tracks as it is pretty sketchy.

Instead we walked back to the N-634 and along that to Liendo. Still a tough climb up and down with the heat bouncing off the baking road. From there it was through the bush and back on the coastal track.

Hills, goats tracks, rocky terrain, thankful for our walking sticks, scenery stunning...
Just when you think you are at the top of the hill there is more. It’s midday and it’s hot. The last 2kms are always the hardest.
Arrived into Laredo, find a bar, order a cold beer and food…pulpo a la gallega (steamed octopus dusted with paprika on a slice of boiled potato), cod in garlic butter, jamon croquette and goats cheese with caramelised onion.
Satiated we look for our Albergue and find it 150m around the corner from the bar - yay!  Albergue Casa de la Trinidad. €10 pp including breakfast in a dorm of 12. We will be using our ear plugs tonight.

The Albergue has a range of activities to partake in. Mass, pilgrim blessings, get to know each other session and dinner with the nuns.
Make our beds, shower, do our laundry and then head out to explore the town, as we need more time on our feet! The town is a pretty coastal town with a 5km long white sandy beach which is the real draw. We dip our toes in and the water seems much warmer than yesterday.

Wander around the old town and enjoy the cobbled streets massaging through our sandals. Legs tired it’s time to blog. Lots of places closed as it’s siesta so we head back to the bar where we started.

Here's the map from our guidebook.
